Fly Fishing Experiences and Trout in oil

My new work in oil includes a wide range of representations that draw ideas from fly fishing the Rush River in western Wisconsin. Recent fishing trips have produced a number of brown trout taken from the Rush which is surrounded by the limestone cliffs and farm land east of the Twin Cities where I currently live. I have tried to let each piece evolve on its own, not forcing each representation into a particular style of painting. The results have been interesting to me.

After years of producing works in stone, bronze and scratchboard my new work incorporates old ideas with new ones. Simply put, it makes sense to me to incorporate my experiences into paintings and to find interesting ways of depicting those experiences.
