Modern Work
Modern work.
I have worked for years with ideas and materials based on my own assumptions and those of others. I am putting some of those aside. Now I am trying to find new ideas to paint that are interesting to me. I also want to find interesting ways to paint them.
The creative struggle to keep work fresh and spontaneous has brought me to some new realizations and in the process allowed me to create work that is interesting to me.
I have found myself in a quandry lately, what to create and why? What makes it art and does it matter and to whom? Does the artist have to produce quantity? or quality? Why make something at all?
Creating is never simple. At every point creating art becomes work, some days are easy and some are not, but every day it is work.
In many ways Modernity has provided the freedom and skill to create what we want but it has also exposed artistic traps which are destructive to the process of working, thinking and creating. For many artists it seems (myself included) to be a creative struggle to go beyond what others expect and to work within yourself. Whether in life or art we all become things that in retrospect led us down paths that we detours and distractions from our own voice.
My new work is an attempt to incorporate new ideas with new ways of presenting them and then to see where my ideas take me.
I want my work be challenging and competitive to me.
I hope my new work brings forth these ideas.
